HIGHWAY
TRANSPORTATION
The four-lane U.S. Highway 550 connects San Juan County's communities of Farmington, Aztec and Bloomfield to Albuquerque and Interstates 40 and 25.
U.S. Highway 64 is a divided, four-lane road connecting Bloomfield, Farmington and Shiprock, and continues both east and west as a two lane corridor. NM Highway 371 provides a southerly connection to Interstate 40 at Thoreau. U.S. Highway 491 connects Shiprock, NM to Cortez, CO to the North, and Interstate 40 and Gallup, NM to the south.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS
An independently-owned 144-strand fiber optic line connects San Juan County to Albuquerque, NM, and Grand Junction, CO. Capitalizing on the availability of fiber, Qwest Communications is investing in upgrading its local copper network and central office switch gear in order to provide improved local telephone and advanced data services.
Qwest
is the incumbent local exchange carrier (ILEC) for the eastern
portion of San Juan County. Navajo Communications is the ILEC
for the Navajo Nation, including the western portion of the county.
Several of the Internet service providers have recently introduced high-speed and dial-up service to the county. Reasonably-priced DSL, ISDN and wireless technologies are available.

AIR
TRANSPORTATION
The
Four Corners Regional Airport is owned and operated
by the City of Farmington. The airport is FAA certified
and is located in the northwest quadrant of the city, about
one mile from downtown Farmington.
Four
Corners Regional Airport accommodates commercial jetliners as
well as air freight operations. Three commercial airlines currently
operate out of Farmington, with direct flights to Albuquerque,
Phoenix and Denver.
General
aviation is supported by a fixed base operator providing fueling
services, storage, major air frame and engine repair, flight
instruction and charter services.
The
Aztec Municipal Airport is located two miles from
the City of Aztec. It is a 24-hour, gated and locked facility
for general aviation.

The city's two water treatment plants and one wastewater plant are operated by OMI Operations Management International. Jointly, the two plants have a designed maximum capacity of 40 mgd; currently the maximum capacity of both plants is 30 mgd. average There are 13 water storage tanks with a capacity of 23.5 million gallons. The steps used in treating the water are coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, chlorination, filtration and fluoridation. Average delivered water pressure is 50 psi to 100 psi. The primary source of raw water is Farmington Lake, which is supplied by the Animas River, and can be further supplied by the San Juan River.
The wastewater plant treatment system consists of two primary clarifiers, eight biological contractors, three digesters, two trickling filters, 3 total secondary clarifiers, 3 total chlorine contact chambers, 6 total larger-volume drying beds, 1 MRAS unit (Medium Rate Activated Sludge), 1 enclosed Headworks Building, twenty sludge drying beds and one sludge filter press.
