SJEDS INVESTMENT CAMPAIGN FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Moving San Juan County Forward

SJEDS' goal is to develop the long-term stable funding base and sustainable economic development programs to move San Juan County's economy forward. SJEDS is the leading organization in the role of securing our economy future. Success is a strong economy with quality jobs, growing companies and diversified economic growth for San Juan County. Read the Moving Forward brochure.

Vision: Build on SJEDS success and increase its capacity to serve its stakeholders through sustainable funding and community support.

Objectives for the Investment Campaign: Increased funding for SJEDS annual programs. Based on research of comparable Economic Development Organizations (EDOs) done by SJEDS in the Spring of 2006, the funding best practices of other EDOs are from public and private sources, with about 50% public and 50% private. SJEDS will continue to maintain the public sector funding base and to work to substantially increase the private sector funding during 2007-2011.

What will we do with the additional funding from investors? The funding will increase SJEDS capacity in their programs, support for economic development in the County and SJEDS staffing levels.

SJEDS projects for 2007 through 2011, given investor funding:

  1. Industrial Park expansion: SJEDS is working with Farmington, Aztec and Bloomfield to assist with their industrial parks (new and existing).
  2. Recruitment of new companies to San Juan County, and the ongoing support of the Enterprise Center at the College to create new jobs and companies to further diversify the economic base of the region.
  3. Employer support programs for San Juan County employers in their recruiting efforts for professionals within the County and from outside the County, such as workforce training (in coordination with San Juan College), programs to support trailing spouses, and ongoing support of employers as they work to improve their workforce.
  4. Enhanced access to economic research and database information systems for local and regional employers, including expanded SJEDS web site information
  5. Promote inter-company business and economic development opportunities among SJEDS investor companies in San Juan County.
